Greenville High School students Parker and Peyton Jarvis are preparing to compete against some of the top student anglers in the state after qualifying for the Texas High School Bass Association (THSBA) State Tournament later this month.
The brother duo, made up of senior Parker Jarvis and freshman Peyton Jarvis, will compete in the state tournament May 30-31 alongside more than 200 teams from across Texas. The competition will feature approximately 70 teams in each division as student anglers put their skills, preparation, and strategy to the test on one of the biggest stages in Texas high school fishing.
This marks just the second year Greenville ISD has had a competitive bass fishing team, making the brothersβ advancement to the THSBA State Tournament another exciting milestone for the growing program.
For Parker, the tournament appearance also marks his second trip to the state level during his high school career. Following graduation, Parker plans to continue competing collegiately after committing to fish for Dallas Baptist University.
In preparation for the event, teams spend time βpre-fishing,β a process where anglers scout the lake, study conditions, and identify potential fishing locations before tournament competition officially begins. The preparation helps anglers build confidence and develop a strategy before competition day arrives.
Tournament mornings begin well before sunrise, with teams launching early and waiting for the official start. Anglers are not permitted to leave the boat ramp until 5 a.m. before heading to the locations they identified during pre-fishing. The first cast of tournament competition begins at 7 a.m.
The state tournament represents months of preparation, patience, and teamwork as student anglers compete in changing lake conditions while making strategic decisions throughout the day.
As Parker and Peyton prepare to represent Greenville ISD at the state level, their qualification highlights the continued growth of student involvement and success in competitive programs and activities across the district.
